I imagine that a hunter-gather(ish) lifestyle doesn’t provide a lot of good sources for salt, but a lot of options for bland (or for “smoked beyond recognition”). So a nice slab of nearly indestructible salt pork would look pretty darn good, especially if you’re facing a winter of root vegetables.
