What does this mean for Family Man? Why, I’ll tell you!
First, here is a silly video of me explaining the project. Watch it, it’s VERY SILLY and I’m proud of it.
So, yeah, what will this do to Family Man? In the proximate sense, not a whole ton. If the project is fully funded, there will be a deadline or two in there that might result in a missed update or two (to preserve health and sanity), but otherwise nothing dramatic. Volume II is not one of the books I’m printing in this round.
But: in a broader and more important sense, this is a big deal.
This project will help me determine how I’ll fund and print future Family Man volumes. If the project is a thundering success and takes in more than the cost of production, some of the profit will be set aside to offset the cost of printing my next book – and, surprise, that will almost certainly be Family Man. Some of the money will go towards keeping me drawing my own comics (ie…this one) instead of taking on time-consuming freelance gigs.
And, lastly: it’s just kind of cool. If you like this comic, one of these books will be enjoyable to you.
Do you like the silly, awkward jokes and the historical hijinks? You will probably find Bite Me! charming (did I mention that it includes Luther’s first appearance?). Do you like the tongue-in-cheek commentary on intellectual and art history? You will probably enjoy Danse Macabre 2.0. Do you like the fable-ish bits and the character dynamics and sense of tension? Well, Outfoxed is about as distilled as my storytelling gets. (Also: tricorn hats.) Do you like books as physical objects? Friends, I am making these things pretty, because I know how to do that, now.
So! Wander on over to Kickstarter. Take in the view. And consider buying yourself some books. I hope to make a lot more of those, with your help.
